Casting Dots

Spending your budget, taking a dot back, and what counts as votable.

While a vote is open, every card the tab's board shows carries a small − 0 + counter in its corner.

Spending and taking back

Press + to add one of your dots and − to take one back. Stacking several dots on one card is allowed, each counting separately, unless the vote was started with One each under Dots per item: then each of your dots must go on a different card. For an Editor, the Vote button in the bottom-right cluster keeps count: its badge shows how many dots you have left, and the Vote panel above it says so in words, like "2 of 3 dots left".

Each card carries a tally counter, and the Vote button counts the dots you have left.

The counter starts at zero, so you can always see which cards are in play and how many dots each has. − greys out when none of the dots on it are yours, and + once your budget is spent (or, under One each, once you have a dot on that card), rather than disappearing, so the buttons stay where your pointer expects them.

The rest of the card keeps working during a vote: click it to open its panel, or drag it to another column. Once the vote ends the buttons go and the counter becomes a plain tally, since at that point it is a result to read rather than something to change.

What can take a dot

The cards take the dots. The board itself takes none, so you can still work the board during the vote. A card shown on two boards is one card, with one count. A card face down on a board that hides writing takes no dots until it is revealed.

When the host ends the vote, each card keeps the dots it gathered as its Votes, which the card's ▲ count and a board's Top Voted widget read afterwards.

Casting needs an Editor or Participant role: someone on a Viewer share link sees the tallies but can't add a dot.
