Exporting a Tab

Take a tab out of liveplanner: its cards or cells as CSV, a picture as PNG, SVG or PDF, a Markdown outline, or JSON you can import back.

Export downloads the tab you are on in the format you need, whether that is a CSV for a spreadsheet, an image for a slide, a PDF to print, or a file to move a dashboard into another plan.

Opening Export

There are a few ways in, and they all open the same Export Tab dialog:

  • The tab's menu (the ⋯ button on the active tab, or right-click the tab): choose Export.
  • Export… in the command palette (Cmd / Ctrl + K). This works on a view-only share link too, so viewers can download a copy.
  • Export in the ⋯ menu at the top of the Explorer panel.

Formats for each kind of tab

The dialog shows a card for each format that suits the tab:

TabFormats
Board tabMarkdown, CSV, PNG, SVG, PDF
Sheet tabCSV, PNG, SVG, PDF
Dashboard tabJSON, PNG, SVG, PDF
Form tabJSON
The Export Tab dialog shows a card for each format the tab offers.
  • CSV: a Board's cards or a Sheet's cells as comma-separated text, for a spreadsheet. A board's CSV reads back in with Import CSV…. A value a spreadsheet would run as a formula is made safe with a leading '.
  • Markdown: a Board's columns and every card in them, as a readable outline (.md).
  • JSON: a .liveplanner-tab.json file that imports back with full fidelity. A Dashboard's JSON carries its rows, slots and what they hold; a Form's carries the whole form.
  • PNG: a high-resolution image, good for slides, reports and chat.
  • SVG: a crisp vector image that scales to any size and opens in design tools.
  • PDF: a single-page PDF of the tab, ready to print or share.

The text formats (CSV, Markdown, JSON) each open an editor filled with the tab in that format: tweak the text and press Copy, or download the file (Download .csv, Download .md and so on). Your edits in that box never change the tab. The image formats (PNG, SVG, PDF) open a preview with a download button (Download PNG, Download SVG or Download PDF). All formats at the top of either screen takes you back to the cards.

Files are named after the plan and the tab, for example Roadmap - Overview.png.

What the images show

Each image shows the tab as it is laid out:

  • A Board tab's image is its board: the header, each column with its count, and the cards in it.
  • A Sheet tab's image is the sheet's cells as they show now, with its charts where they sit in the grid.
  • A Dashboard tab's image is the whole page, 1440 px wide: each slot drawn as a card holding a picture of what it shows (a board, a sheet, a chart, a metric, a note, a checklist and so on).
  • A Gantt chart, a calendar or another visualisation is drawn as its chart, as it looks in the editor.

A Form tab exports only its JSON: a picture of a form wouldn't tell you much, and the JSON carries the whole thing.
