Import brings content into the tab you are on, from the tab's menu (the ⋯ button on the active tab, or right-click the tab). What it takes depends on what the tab holds: a Board or Sheet reads a CSV file, and a Dashboard or Form reads a liveplanner JSON export. It is the counterpart to exporting.
A CSV onto a Board
On a Board tab the menu row reads Import CSV…. Pick a .csv or .tsv file and each row after the first becomes a new card on the board, added to what is already there:
- The first row names the columns. Title is required; Type, Status, Assignee, Priority, Estimate, Start, Due, Labels, Description and your card types' own fields are read when present, and any column it doesn't know is skipped.
- A Status that names one of the board's columns puts the card there; otherwise it goes in the first column that fits.
- The board then says what happened, for example "Added 12 cards; skipped 3 rows". The whole import is one step, so Undo takes it back.
Files up to 5 MB are read. A board's own Export › CSV reads straight back in. See Boards.
A CSV into a Sheet
On a Sheet tab, Import CSV… reads a .csv or .tsv file into the sheet's cells, values read as if you had typed them. If the sheet already has something in it, you choose first: Replace Sheet, Insert at Selection or Cancel. See Sheets.
A Dashboard or Form from JSON
On a Dashboard or Form tab the row reads Import, and opens the Import to Tab dialog. Paste a tab's JSON export into the box and press Import, or press Import a file instead to pick a .liveplanner-tab.json file. You can also run Import… from the command palette.
- A Dashboard takes only a Dashboard's own export (Export › JSON on a Dashboard tab): it replaces the dashboard's rows, slots and what they hold. Anything else is turned away with a message, and the dashboard is left as it was. A slot that showed one of the plan's other tabs reads as deleted when the file comes from another plan; clear it or fill it again.
- A Form takes a tab's JSON export, such as a Form exported from another plan.
Cards carried in the file are added to this plan, along with any card types it doesn't have yet. Cards the plan already holds are left as they are, so importing a tab back into its own plan never doubles them. If some cards can't be added, the dialog says so before it closes.
JSON import replaces the tab
Importing JSON replaces the tab's contents with what comes in, it does not merge. Because that is destructive, the dialog leads with an amber warning naming the tab about to be overwritten, so you can back out first. If you change your mind afterwards, Undo (Cmd / Ctrl + Z) brings the previous tab back. To keep the current tab as it is, add a new tab first and import into that.
Import is greyed out while a tab is locked, and the tab menu isn't offered on a view-only share link.
Moving cards in from another tool? Export them from there as a CSV with a Title column, then use Import CSV… on a Board tab.
